Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the notion of Gelassenheit in the philosophy of Martin Heidegger and John David Caputo. First, the genesis of the notion is discussed, namely, the writings of Master Eckhart belonging to the so-called apophatic theology. In the next step, the coalescence of Gelassenheit in the works of Heidegger and Caputo is analysed. Each time, the author particularly emphasised the ethical connotations of this notion. In conclusion, I would like to emphasise that, despite their significant differences, both authors use the Gelassenheit concept to create a kind of apophatic ethics. This would be a project of a morality that responds to unique experiences that elude the possibility of linguistic conceptualisation.
