Summary/Abstract: The author's working thesis is that a century after Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky's death many believe that he belongs to the eternal stars on the litera ry horizon, worthy of every accolade, but that his ideas have little in common with the contemporaneity. He believes that there is nothing more wrong than this view and strives to point out what makes him our contemporary. The author polemicizes with contemporary critics who suffered from chronic underestimation and disparaging of Dostoevsky and who did not consider him a genius. He points out that Dostoevsky is a great artist of the subconscious, but that he did not only depict the dark depths of the subconscious, but also the dazzling heights of the spirit. Dostoevsky also anticipated existentialism and had great influence on contemporary literature, particularly German and French authors — primarily Bernhard Kellermann, and especially Stefan Zweig, Jean-Paul Sartre, Albert Camus, etc. Finally, the author concludes that Dostoevsky was not only a genius writer: his works are also full of deep wisdom. By not expressing wisdom in his confused life, he incarnated the greatest wisdom of the heart and spirit in his works.
