Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with the motif of adultery in the novel Gorski car by Svetolik Ranković. In the novel Gorski car, Svetolik Ranković describes the moral failure of the rural environment described, as well as the disintegration of patriarchal norms. Svetolik Ranković shows the disintegration of patriarchal norms by establishing a series of male and female characters whose characteristics, in relation to the expectations of the patriarchal community, are inverted. By reading the novel Gorski car, it is possible to notice that Đurica Dražović, as the main male character, is the bearer of all those traits that are considered undesirable for a man in the patriarchal community, while Stanka Radonjić, as the main female character, is the bearer of those traits thatare considered male traits in the patriarchal environment. In addition, this novel describes several major transgressions for a patriarchal society, such as marrying a girl without her father's permission, living in an extramarital union, a woman's aversion to the concept of motherhood, etc. All these transgressions are closely related to the motif of the moral collapse of the described society, as well as to the motif of broken ideals. This paper deals with the answer to the question of what is the connection between these motifs and the motif of adultery in the novel Gorski car by Svetolik Ranković.
