Summary/Abstract: Systematic research and studies of the April War as a phenomenon of World War II have started taking into account its importance and significance in the Yugoslav historiography. The first steps forward and contributions were research papers of individuals that were published in the distinguished scientific magazine Military Historical Review (MHR). The analysis of the published papers has enabled to discover and understand the causes and consequences of the rapid fall and capitulation of the Yugoslav Government in this short‐term war. At the same time all the factors that had influenced the breakdown of the Yugoslav military forces were the processes and division of the country into the occupation zones. The authors have tried to present, explain and interpret the events by using available archival documents and relevant literature. The Military Historical Institute has published the Collection of Documents on the April War 1941, thus con‐ tributing significantly to the advancement in understanding the causes of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia’s defeat. The skillfully arranged documents from this Collection represent the priceless wealth of documents considering the importance, diversity and number of documents in it. Following this, it can be concluded that the MHR has enabled thorough the research of the April War as the beginning of World War II in Yugoslavia its comprehensive understanding.
