Summary/Abstract: The article below is an approach of the migration that some of the inhabitants of the Romanian village of Jina (Sibiu County, Transylvania) have developed across the Carpathian Mountains, to rural settlements from Northern Wallachia, beginning with the second half of the 18th century. Based on ethnographic information from Jina, the author takes into account several causes of such a demographic flow, including the coercive policy of the Austrian authorities in military and religious issues. The current oral tradition in Jina describes the enduring cultural memory in anthroponymy and folk festivals that bind and periodically bring together villagers from Transylvania and Wallachia. The conclusions of the paper highlight the manner in which ethno-folkloric and historical traditions can interrelate, which eventually endorses the reliability and the factual probability of both of them.
