Summary/Abstract: Presented paper discusses the profile of Heni Ajmanówna, a Jewish woman from Ślesin (a town located in Eastern Wielkopolska) in the light of her diary written in the twenties of the twentieth century. H. Ajmanówna devoted a lot of space in her notes to the problem of obtaining education for Jewish girls from small towns. Her diary is a testimony to the unyielding pursuit of education, which, due to the lack of opportunities for formal education, is understood primarily as the acquisition of knowledge and broadening of intellectual horizons carried out through self-education. H. Ajmanówna’s narration fits into the voices of the Jewish generation entering adulthood in the twenties and thirties of the twentieth century. She shares with her peers opposition to the traditional values cultivated in the birth family, support for Zionism, the need to change the place of Jewish women in society and the need to obtain an education that may become the key toc reating a new social reality.
