Summary/Abstract: The Republic of Türkiye, which this year is celebrating its 100th anniversary since its foundation, has undergone a number of political, economic, social and cultural changes, which have been driven by its own dynamics and global developments alike; continues to progress on a trajectory. Migration and urbanization, two of the strongest catalysts for driving forward change and progress, are particularly popular topics with the social sciences. The urban culture in Türkiye, as shaped by migration, has generated distinctive influences over different periods of time. Although the causes of migration, which are not completely independent of global developments, tend to produce similar effects, the urbanization experience of Türkiye has remained largely unique in terms of its outcomes. The introduction of machinery to rural areas in the 1950s, when the multiparty political system was introduced, has created the emergence of an idle labor force in the countryside. The movement of large masses of unemployed rural dwellers to cities has triggered off a new wave of urbanization in Türkiye. This process has taken on a different dimension with the transition to globalization and the neoliberal economy since the 1980s. Not impervious to trends of change taking hold globally, the social sciences have shifted their focus to certain areas over time. This article focuses on the development of folklore in Türkiye, taking into account the political and economic conditions and the urbanization process, which is discussed in the context of the development of sociology. Moreover, in line with the paradigm shifts taking place in the process, the findings on the current situation are critically evaluated.
