THE FILM THE WAVES OF THE DANUBE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE SECURITATE

Summary/Abstract: „The Waves of the Danube” is the Romanian film directed by Liviu Ciulei at the end of the 50s, a controversial creation even from the scriptwriting phase. Even more so, the directing of the film in case sparked at the time different discussions and debates, including some at the highest political level. Considering that the film „The Waves of the Danube” is still running on national TV screens, on different occasions, we consider it necessary to research what happened during the making of this production. Through this article we will expose (in light of official documents from the CNSAS archives) what were the problems with which the film director Liviu Ciulei was confronted during the making of „The Waves of the Danube”, how the Securitate was involved in this production, but also what were the consequences on the private life of the film director after it was screened for the public.
