Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to provide a description and an interpretation of the Object Extraposition structure in English, starting with earlier interpretation and moving towards a new analysis. Within the examination of the structure, special focus is placed on the role of the pronoun “it”, with arguments against an interpretation as an expletive and in favour of that as a Ө-marked element. In addition to this, the factors that may influence the interpretation are also investigated with the purpose of establishing a classification the main categories of verbs that allow object extraposition. The corpus serving as the basis for this study is represented by a consistent set of example sentences.
