Summary/Abstract: Relations between the Maghreb and the Iberian Peninsula over the last few centuries, and subsequently between Algeria under French rule and Spain, have been passionate, tumultuous, but culturally close, so much so that the shared history of the two countries and their geographical proximity have formed the basis of a common destiny, to such an extent that the quest for knowledge of the other and its environment has become a central issue in understanding the scope of such a relationship. This article devotes a great deal of space to trying to get an idea of the other's view through the eyes of the writer José Maria Servet, who recorded the details of his trip to Algeria in his book 'En Argelia Recuerdos de viaje', published in 1890, almost three decades after the French presence in Algeria. It is an intercultural dialogue between the Spanish author who discovers during his presence in Algeria, the Algerian and the pied noir. The second part of the article deals with the presence of Spaniards in Algeria as pieds noirs, but above all in their capacity as a community forced by the events of history to take a position during the Algerian national revolution.
