Summary/Abstract: In 1948, the National Organization “Service to Poland” was established, which was entrusted with the task of shaping the “right” attitude among youngsters. One of its tasks was to organize holiday trips for young people to work in farm brigades. The article analyses the functioning of youth in these brigades and the method of indoctrination that they were subjected to at that time. The following issues are discussed: the process of recruiting the so-called “junaks”, living conditions of the youth and their work on farms, organization of free time, control by the authorities, and cultural and educational activities carried out in recreational rooms organized for this purpose. The article is based on unpublished source materials from the region of activity by the Provincial Headquarters of the National Organization “Service to Poland” in Katowice. These are mainly sources of a normative character and reports on the activity of farm brigades. Documents by educational authorities included in the team of the Presidium of the Provincial Council of the District School Board in Katowice, detailing the participation of schoolchildren in the brigades as well as describing the conditions in them, their problems and achievements, as well as secondary sources were also used.
