Summary/Abstract: The military coup of September 12, 1980 is an event that occurred as a result of the series of the most playful organs in the Republican period in terms of Turkish democracy. As a matter of fact, the coup, which can be considered as a combination of increasing anarchy, economic problems, political deadlocks and dozens of insurmountable problems throughout the country, was welcomed by a wide segment, including the national and local media, and found wide coverage in the press. Therefore, the "national press", which sheds light on the period in the academic studies carried out after the September 12 revolution, has been among the most important sources referenced in terms of archive quality. However, not much work has been done on how this domestic military operation is received and how it is transferred to the society. From this point of view, the fact that this study will be formed in the local press will contribute to the re-evaluation of the 12 September 1980 military coup in a different framework. In this study, it will be tried to explain what happened in that period from the eyes of the local press by making use of the archives of Yeşilgiresun and Ileri newspapers of Giresun province, which was one of the most frequented points of martial law commanders during the 12 September period. In this context, in order to make the study more understandable, the process that took Turkey to September 12 will be discussed in general terms within the integrity of the subject before moving on to the archives.
