Middle Black Sea Region Press Weight Stones - Lituses

Summary/Abstract: The subject of this study is a group of materials called weight stone- litus- found in the press mechanisms to obtain wine from grapes or to produce olive oil in ancient times determined in the Middle Black Sea Region within the scope of my doctoral thesis. Based on identified materials it was aimed to provide inferences about the history of this material group, which without any inscription in addition to obtaining some results about the agricultural technology in the region. Within the framework of typological researches it is seen that similar examples of these weight stones which were widely used as a part of Roman Imparial Period agricultural production are found in the Western Black Sea and Aegean Regions as well as in the Southern Levant, in many parts of Mediterranean within the domain of the Roman Empire.
