Summary/Abstract: The subject of this study is 23 terracotta unguentariums brought to Samsun Museum through excavation, purchase and confiscation. Unguentariums, one of the important ceramic groups of the ancient world, contain scented oils, perfumes, ointments, etc. It is known that it is frequently used in daily life areas due to substances. Unguentariums, which are not only limited to daily use areas, have also been used for different purposes as offerings to sanctuaries and grave gifts. Unguentariums are recognized in two different types in the literature as Fusiform (Spindle Form) and Bulbous (Bag Form). In the inventory of the Samsun Museum, there are artifacts belonging to both forms, covering the Hellenistic and Roman periods. In this study, shape groups, typological development and chronological distribution of unguentariums belonging to two form types were tried to be revealed.
