Summary/Abstract: This paper analyses one of the most famous modern stage interpretations The Forest Song by Lesia Ukraiinka at the Les Kurbas Academic Theatre in Lviv, Ukraine (2011). The main principles of the production are identified, in particular, intertextuality, using postmodern theatre techniques and the syntheticity of artistic means. Particular attention is paid to moving away from text-centric strategies of interpretation of the work in favour of an individual, original creative concept. The indirect relationship of the reading of the play by the director is shown with the latest literary studies of Lesia Ukraiinka’s creative work from the beginning of the twenty-first century. The main ideological and aesthetic principles of the play are identified as are the means by which they are realised dramatically. The sequence, consistency and integrity of the proposed interpretation of this outstanding masterpiece of Ukrainian drama are shown on the example of analysis of the dynamics of space-time and musical drama.Given the long (ten years) and intense (176 performances) stage history of the play, it is proposed that it be considered as a socio-cultural phenomenon, the key markers of which are a strong predictive potential, clear socio-political sound, systemic innovation, dynamism and reflexivity.
