Summary/Abstract: This paper is a review of German and American theologian Paul Tillich’s pastoral theory. Due to his appreciation of modern medicine and psychology, as well as his deep understanding of culture and symbolic forms, Tillich has formulated some interesting guidelines for the development of pastoral theology in modern age. Although he was a protestant theologian, his thought is inevitable and extremely important in every discussion about the relationship between Christianity and culture, which is also in the scope of interest of Orthodox pastoral theology. That is why the author will not only review Tillich’s pastoral theory, but also evaluate it from the Orthodox perspective.
