Summary/Abstract: From Roman Dacia we have data published from the systematic or partial research of c. 53 necropolises or funerary sites. The degree and scope of information varies across these sites. At Apulum necropolises have been studied more intensely than civilian settlements. Particularly in recent years, rescue excavations for real estate and urban investment have uncovered five large funerary complexes related to the city. Alba Iulia-Dealul Furcilor is the largest necropolis known to Dacia, at approximately 35 hectares. As of 2011, only c. 20–25% of the site had been investigated. Excavations have continued every year, and as of 2018, 1,243 surviving in-situ articulated human remains have been recovered from the necropolis at Dealul Furcilor, and it is still not fully archaeologically excavated. Due to planned urban development in the area, investigations at the necropolis will continue. There is much literature discussing the systematic research at Alba Iulia-Dealul Furcilor; however, the majority of the human remains recovered from this site have yet to undergo any significant osteological analysis. This paper intends to provide a comprehensive overview of the archaeological excavations from Alba Iulia-Dealul Furcilor, and also a complete synopsis of the human remains recovered from the site.
