Summary/Abstract: This study covers a topic of growing interest at the present moment - the manner in which the European Public Prosecutor’s Office conducts criminal investigations. This study addresses a topical issue – how the European Public Prosecutor’s Office conducts criminal proceedings. This topic has sparked much controversy since the idea of setting up a public prosecutor’s office at union level was launched. In addition to the transfer of the authority to prosecute certain categories of offenses and thus the surrender of some national sovereignty to the European Union, there were concerns about a number of practical issues, including the functioning of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office and the division of powers between the judicial bodies involved in the conduct of the criminal investigation, the applicable law, the manner in which evidence will be collected and administered and the preventive measures that could be taken. Without claiming to provide straight explanations, I set out in this paper to answer some of these questions, which have been scattered one by one, following rigorous research by EU law experts and numerous debates on the draft Regulation of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, while others have only recently begun to emerge. I would like this study to serve as a small guide to the investigations conducted by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, a guide which dispels the fog that has settled over this new institution and debunk the myths that the EPPO is nothing more than a bizarre invention devised by the European Union to divert the powers of the Member States, gradually stripping them of their power and the protective garment of national sovereignty.
