Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes the photography of socialist realism using examples from several key photographers from the former Yugoslavia. The authors in this paper mostly belong to the Zagreb and Belgrade photography scene and the generation of photographers that appeared during the 1930s and 1940s. At the time of their appearance on the photography scene, several important events occurred. One of them is the international exhibition Film und Foto in Zagreb in 1930. This event and the emergence of certain trends in photography, such as straight photography and New Objectivity, certainly influenced photography in the local environment, which would mostly manifest after the Second World War with the emergence of socialist realism.
