Summary/Abstract: Kutadgu Bilig was written by Yusuf Balasaguni in Karakhanid Turkish between 1069-1070. There are three copies of Kutadgu Bilig known today, one of which is written with Uighur letters, two of them are written with Arabic letters. Reşid Rahmeti Arat prepared the critical text publication of the work by comparing all three copies. In Kutadgu Bilig, which is an allegorical work, “knowledge of being happy” in two worlds is given through four main characters. While giving this information, Yusuf visualizes what he wants to tell in the minds of the reader or listener by establishing a similarity relationship between certain concepts. Yusuf’s mastery of words is also clearly seen in the couplets where morning/day and evening/night depictions are made. In our study, the couplets in Kutadgu Bilig in which morning descriptions are made will be evaluated by making use of the critical text publication of the work prepared by Arat.
