Summary/Abstract: The novel Twelve Chairs, written in 1928, is basically a satirical novel that is harshly criticized. With the new order of Soviet Russia and the indelible traces of Tsarism, a brand new Russia appears in the work. It is noteworthy that the carefully chosen characters and types must have a moral and spiritual collapse during the transfer towards this new Russia. However, the protagonist of the novel Ippolit Matveevich Vorobyaninov experiences the biggest collapse in this rotten order. Vorobyaninov, a nobleman, changed his whole order with the October Revolution. While he seems accustomed to living an ordinary life, his whole world changes when his mother-in-law keeps a secret. He started his career as the President of the Noble League and finished as a thief, beggar and even a murderer. In the end, he loses his mind, which is all he has left.
