Summary/Abstract: In this study, Japanese author Natsume Soseki’s short story “Dai Nana Ya” was analysed through artificial intelligence (AI). The study’s goal is to see if AI can reveal agents’ actual narrative schemas and how it can reveal the flow of emotions in the narrative. The research question was determined as “Is it necessary to know the author’s personal life in order to analyse an author’s work and hear the message he/she gives?” Accordingly, the short story was first analyzed using Greimas’ Actantial Model, and then an actantial schema was extracted and the narrative shema was revealed. KH Coder was used to analyze the data. The results were then compared to literary scholars’ perspectives on the work. It was discovered that, while AI greatly facilitates researchers’ analysis of the surface structure of the narrative, its deep structure, particularly in metaphorical narratives, requires human context control for the time being.
