Summary/Abstract: Air transport is an important component of the transport sector and an integral part of the European economy. It contributes to the creation of GDP, stimulates employments, supports production, tourism, trade exchange of goods and services, improves the productivity and the connection of bussines and atracts foreign investments. The liberalization of the air transport and the establishment of the Single European Market for aviation had a considerable influence on the growth and development of the air transport in the European Union and created important economic benefits. As a result of the liberalization of the air transport, 1.4 milion new jobs and 62 bilons euros in the European economy were generated. In contrast to the air transport in the European Union which is not state-controlled and as a consequence a large number of low-cost air carriers were stimulaetd to appear, in the Republic of Macedonia there was an unbalanced process towards the liberalisation from state control and the opening of new markets of competition. The Republic of Macedonia which is completely landlocked is considerably dependable on the air transport for efficient connections with the core of Europe and the whole world. The application of the European experiences and knowledge should encourage the necessary reforms for a complete liberalisation in accordance with the EU law. This will create conditions for the appearance of new airlines which will offer low prices, foreign investments in the infrastucture and new available routes essential for the integration in the global economy and the European markets. The increased frequency of the flights, the larger choice of routes, the lower prices and the larger number of services which are offered, all of these create gains and changes in the quality of living. This is especially important in the context of the strategic determination of the Republic of Macedonia for the European integration and the integration in the European common aviation area.
