Pedestrian crossings – the necessary conditions for recognizing obstacles and the possibility of improvement

Summary/Abstract: In view of the changes in the Act on Road Traffic and the extension of protection for pedestrians at crossings to include the right of way of pedestrians entering a crossing, the article presents current problems related to the need to perceive people in the crossing zone early enough. As these problems worsen after dark, the author, guided by his own experience in the field of obstacle recognition, offers specific proposals to increase the sight distance of pedestrian crossings and people at them.
