RATIO OF CAUSES OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS AND PROCESSED VIOLATIONS DURING TRAFFIC CONTROL IN THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA 2017-2021. YEAR

Summary/Abstract: Factors that lead to road traffic accidents are: man (participants), vehicle, road and incident factor. Indicators around the world and in our country indicate that the largest number of accidents occur due to violations of traffic regulations by - humans, drivers. On the expressed risk, countries around the world act in a more or less uniform way with a system of general training for drivers, additional education, and traffic monitoring, i.e. checking whether road users know and respect traffic regulations, and based on that, determining misdemeanor or criminal sanctions, which are prerequisites for eliminating risks and achieving a more favorable state of road traffic safety. Most of the countries of the modern world, including the Republic of Croatia, have entrusted supervision to the Ministry of the Interior, i.e. traffic police officers, and according to the available data, they do not carry out supervision spontaneously without a plan and direction, but on the contrary, on the basis of statistical indicators on traffic accidents, in particular causes, and focus their activities on those causes that most often lead to traffic accidents. The paper investigates the state of road traffic safety in the Republic of Croatia and the activity of the police in the supervision of violations in the period from 2017 to 2021, and determines the target (risk orientation) based on indicators of the most common causes of traffic accidents and prosecuted violations.
