Summary/Abstract: The paper represents an overview of the professional engagement of Slobodan Komadinić (1912–1979), a librarian and bibliographer at the Yugoslav Bibliographic Institute. For a long time, he participated in many activities of the Bibliography and Documentation Section of the Serbian Library Association, as well as of the Union of Library Associations of Yugoslavia. An important part of his activities was also his participation in the work of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), which gave him a chance to get acquainted with the international theory and practice of librarianship. This involvement gave him the opportunity to use this knowledge in the post-war librarianship of Serbia and Yugoslavia. Since he was an employee of the Yugoslav Bibliographic Institute, an institution of the highest priority in the field of bibliography in Yugoslavia, through his many lectures he transferred all relevant information about the bibliographic practice, mainly to his colleagues. His theoretical works have been focused on bibliography. It can be said that his most important accomplishment in the creation of different bibliographies was in the period from 1954 to 1960 when he participated in the creation of the Serbian Retrospective Bibliography and publications issued by the Yugoslav Bibliographic Institute. Participating in different commissions of the Society, Slobodan Komadinić actively contributed to all activities considering library education, which provided a good basis for the creation of the Library and Information Science Department at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade, some twenty years later.
