Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the dispute between the works of literature and the arts, - photography in particular, as a critical description of reality and a form of transgressing the limits of what is acceptable, generally accepted or decent. In the postmodern situation, irony is a traditional tool of the interpretive arsenal, and the boundaries in the field of art are walls built on quicksands that break down the limits imposed by norms. But how far can the provocation of conservatism go and where should it stop? Traditionally problematic topics related to moral and ethical norms, sexuality and nudity, addictions, religious dogmas, marginal groups, etc., are interpreted in the visual works of Pierre and Gilles, Robert Mapplethorpe, Erwin Olaf, Araki, Jan Saudek, Joel-Peter Witkin, Roger Ballon, Andres Serrano.
