Summary/Abstract: The paper offers a comparative analysis of the conceptualization of harvest and the destruction of the idyll in the poem "Reapers" by the Polish poet S. Shimonovich written in the 17th century, and in the works of the Bulgarian writer Elin Pelin from the beginning of the 20th century on the theme of harvest. The observations lead to the conclusion of the existence of a persistent semantic duality of the concept of "harvest" in the two authors, closely related to the folk picture of the world: God's grace (fertility), harmony with nature, love vs. hard, exhausting work, suffering. The Polish author creates an idyllic picture of the harvest, disrupted by the social oppression, while still remaining within the idyll genre. The Bulgarian author, despite the presence of the social factor in the poetics of realism, either interprets the social through the folk picture of the world, or explains the destruction of the idyll not with social, but with natural factors, and also with the biblical idea of work as God's punishment (which confirms the thesis that realism is not a "reflection of reality").
