Summary/Abstract: Orthodox worship is the environment in which church singing originated and later developed. Consequently, the challenges facing Orthodox worship also affect the way church music is understood, nurtured, and developed. The paper deals with the problem of the paradigm following which church singing has changed during its recent history. The problem of the contemporary liturgical and singing paradigm is directly related to the issue of preserving tradition, on the one hand or creating continuity, on the other. In the field of contemporary church singing, this is reflected in the confrontation of two attitudes: the first, which strives to preserve the current singing practice, and the second, which strives to restore traditional, ancient ways of singing. The paper examines the trends in the development of church chanting, through the prism of the antagonism between tradition and relevance, between the church and the secular element in the formation of a paradigm in the field of chanting art.
