Summary/Abstract: In the study, there is description of the initial Christian mission in the northern regions of Europe, with comparative descriptions of religious and political relations between Rome, Frankish state and pagan Scandinavia only in the first half of the 9th century. Swedish, Danish and Slavic tribes lived in this region, which was mostly pagan, but missionary activities are focused only on the first two, while in narrative historical sources, there is very little information about Slavs. St. Ansgar was directed on the Swedish tribe. The source for this research was Vita Anskarii, which describes the life and work of St. Ansgar, as a missionary and as the first archbishop of the Archbishopric of Hamburg-Bremen.
