Summary/Abstract: arski proposes that black metal music can be inscribed in a long current of thoughtthat begins with Romanticism. Assuming an ahistorical, phenomenological definition ofthis cultural formation, Barski considers the problem from several perspectives: directintertextual references, worldview and social philosophy and an aesthetics based ontransgression (among others). Examples demonstrate – for the first time with referenceto Polish culture – the Romantic character of black metal music, which draws onRomanticism as well as later trends which are also rooted in its tenets. All this provesthe unabated presence of the Romantic paradigm in contemporary pop culture.
