Summary/Abstract: Discussing the topos of the mirrored reflection of the woman’s body in AnnaŚwirszczyńska’s poetic works Grodzki finds a profound somatisation of the experienceof being a woman; representations of the poet’s own body are characterised by anaffective ambivalence: the body is the source of limitless self-acceptance and anarcissistic self-love, but it also appears as something alien or abject that may generateauto-aggression. As the subject becomes aware of this dualism there arises a needfor a transgression that would overcome the dualism by becoming someone else, somewhere else. The ambivalence regarding the image of the female body reveals thetendency of Świrszczyńska’s poetics to overcome the artistic and cultural boundariesthat limit individual self-expression and self-definition
