Summary/Abstract: Self-concept is the evaluative notion of the individual towards his own being and ego. A unique characteristic of the Internet is that the user can create and sustain an identity which is different from the real one. 745 Internet-profiles in three dating-sites have been analyzed within the framework of this study. The users of one of them are generally at a mature age and looking for a partner to live with or to marry. The users of the second one are of a younger age, teenagers and young adults. The third site is used predominantly by gay males for the purpose of finding partners, including sexual ones. The analyzed data revealed that the choice of descriptor words in the Internet does not depend as much on sex, age, education, location, etc, as it is a function of the individual disposition. Yet the quality of the descriptors depends much on the age and the purpose the profile has been made for. In general, the preferred descriptors of the Self are abstract terms and words, e.g., “with a sense of humor”, “funny”, “charming”. The presence of body-descriptors is insignificant except for the gay-males dating site.
