Summary/Abstract: The article draws the attention to the peculiarities of Russian economic performance in the Balkans at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. Its activities as a Great Power are retraced in the fields of foreign state loans, investments in industry, trade relations, and transport. They reveal a discrepancy between the political claims of the Russian Empire and its economic influence.
