Summary/Abstract: Segregation is the forced separation of any given group from the rest of the society. Most often it is being associated with racial and ethnical discrimination when minority is being not only isolated but being deprived of the ability to travel, work or marry outside of the group. Voluntary segregation is as common as the forced separation. Self-segregation of any group based on ethnicity or religion may result in inability for normal social interaction and social exclusion. Such phenomena may be called ‘ethnic enclaves’ and may be formed by any group or community not only by minorities which are traditional for a given country. Behind the explanations of meeting higher levels of security, self-segregation of sexual minorities takes place in some countries.
