Summary/Abstract: The Church of Holy Emperors Constantine and Helena in Târgovişte regained its charm, stability, and functionality after a complex restoration process, which covered the monument in its entirety: it addressed both the church’s architecture and artistic components. The general conservation state of the church required in fact an interdisciplinary intervention. The solving of the structural problems demanded the securing of those mural paintings detached in an overwhelming extent from their masonry support, whereas the mural paintings’ restoration would not have been possible without a previous consolidation of the walls, greatly affected by earthquakes, bad weather, and neglect. This essay presents some of the aspects of this complex process of conservation and restoration of the church’s mural paintings and masonry iconostasis.
