Summary/Abstract: Zdzisław Kulikowski (born 1919 in Wilno – died 1988 in Toruń) Visual Artist. In 1951 he graduated from The Faculty of Fine Arts with a Master’s Degree in Arts from the University of Nicolaus Copernicus in Toruń. He was an accomplished artist who focused mainly on church interior designs and selected commercial spaces. He configured and designed scenography for the puppet theater „Baj Pomorski” in his home city and sporadically took interest in painting and graphics. He dedicated utmost on his primary passion, which was stained glass design. At the beginning, Zdzisław Kulikowski collaborated with Edward Kwiatkowski, who was also from Toruń and later his designs were invigorated by the works of Leonard Brzezinski from Szamotuły.Zdzisław Kulikowski’s stained glass window designs can be conveniently found in a number of churches across Poland including Bydgoszcz, Elbląg, Gawłuszowice, Gdańsk, Lipno, Sochaczew, Węgorzewo and a number of other places. The largest of his projects is the design of the entire stained glass window interior for the Cathedral of Saint Nicolaus in Elbląg which he dedicated 20 years of his life to. These cathedral windows were completed between 1969 and 1989. All information was meticulously gathered from a variety of correspondences, meetings and theological consultations with the Reverend, Dr. Mieczysław Józefczyk. Each stained glass arrangement hasits own rich history and unique background. The designs are essentially figural and geometric layouts incorporating the time of Genesis through to the Final Judgment Day, highlighting the lifeof Christ. They inclusively feature scenes of historical importance for Poland, Elbląg and Warmia.
