Experiencing violence in childhood and severity of depression in adulthood

Summary/Abstract: The article points out the social and psychological significance of the problem associated with the experience of violence in childhood (mainly in the family environment) in relation to selected aspects of mental health in adulthood. The analysis was based on a review of empirical studies found in the world literature. It indicates a significant relationship between emotional, physical, sexual violence, neglect and depressive disorders in adulthood. More intense experience of different forms of violence aggravates psychological and social problems of adults in different areas of functioning.
