Summary/Abstract: The article presents means and aims of idealization of times before the “pagan invasion”in 1241 undertaken by Abbot Peter in the Book of Henryków. The abbot presented the “old dukes” as significant benefactors of Cistercians. In this way, he juxtaposes their alleged generosity with the repossession action of Duke Henry III the White. The abbot manipulates the facts, hoping that the passage of time would cause the real picture of many events (e.g. the Church anathemizing duke Henry the Bearded, certain particularities regarding acquisition of some estates by the Cistercians) to fade from people’s memory. Abbot Peter also supports the plans of canonizing Henry II the Pious at the duke who “died for his people” fighting the “pagan invasion”.
