Summary/Abstract: This article presents the operation of pharmacies during the battle of Festung Breslau. Dr. Hanns Hoffmann’s diary, letters he sent, postcards, local press, orders and recollections of other residents were analyzed. These were compared with the legal situation of pharmaciesin the Third Reich and the general condition of German pharmaceutics at the end of the war. The focus was on presenting the role of the District Pharmaceutical Chamber, which played an important role in the town until the end of the siege. On the basis of the source material analyzed, the system of pharmacies in Festung Breslau and their appearance was reconstructed. Issues related to the process of supplying the pharmacies, the transport of medicines and personnel changes in selected establishments are discussed. Using Caroline Seyfang’s work, differences and similarities in the organization of pharmacies are highlighted, and the definitions of Bunkerapotheke (underground pharmacies) and Notapotheke (provisional pharmacies) are contrasted with the reality of the Breslau Fortress (Festung Breslau).
