Summary/Abstract: Horses have been cherished by people for centuries. Either carriage or horseback rides used to be the favourite pastimes of the nobility, as was the case with the Henckel von Donnersmarck family. The largest stable complexes owned by this family were located in places such as Brynek, Krowiarki, Nakło Śląskie, Siemianowice Śląskie and Świerklaniec. The stable premises of each complex were well suited for horse breeding purposes in terms of both technical functions and space arrangement. Moreover, they were renowned for their designers’ attention to architectural details. Nowadays, differences can be observed in the state of preservation of particular complexes: the stable complex in Brynek seems to be best prepared to serve its present functions. As regards the remaining four locations, action should be taken in order to make them suitable for further use.
