Summary/Abstract: In Upper Silesia, many small stately homes developed in the period from theseventeenth to the early twentieth century. These small manor houses usuallyconsisted of two parts: a dwelling house and a farm, and generally were establishedin suburban areas. Permanent component of this type of manors was verdure.Most of such buildings did not survive to this day, and even those that managedto survive either fell into disrepair or underwent many reconstructions.The article aims to present the issue of the small residences of the nobility ofUpper Silesia, which now are located within administrative areas of presentcities, discussing problems of transformation of these small mansions and theircontemporary state of preservation. The study is based mainly on verification oftheir compositional systems, characteristics of the immediate surroundings andarchitecture, as well as accompanying verdure.
