Summary/Abstract: An antique wardrobe as a standalone object is beautiful in itself, but devoid of context – loses much. Considering it as a piece of storing furniture, we should keep in mind its „inner life”, what was stored in it, how its contents could have been changing over the years along with its subsequent users and changes in their lives. This article complements the series of lectures presented at the session organized on the occasion of renovation of the historic Cieszyn folk wardrobe. The authors’ contribution in this conference was the symbolic filling of that wardrobe. The first section of the article presents the elements of Cieszyn folk costume, which probably filled the Cieszyn wardrobe in its splendour times, with particular emphasis on the filigree jewelry. The next section contains a description of the selected elements of the Upper Silesian folk costume. It is saying about the historical treasures which can be found in contemporary Upper-Silesian wardrobes on the example wardrobe belonging to the family of one of the authors, native of Ruda Śląska. The considerations are interspersed with some reflections on the storage of woven, knitted and delicate treasures in home conditions.
