Summary/Abstract: In this study, our attention is focused on specific figurative words called onomatopoeias. The aim of this research is to gain more information about these types of words in the Turkish language, their place in the language system, the forms they can have, the syntactic functions they can perform and the way they can be translated into Bulgarian. The paper presents a classification of these words according to different criteria: by the type of onomatopoeia, by structure, by belonging to a certain part of speech, and by their syntactic role.
