Summary/Abstract: The “I. G. Sbiera” Library of Bukovina in Suceava is today, a century after its establishment, a landmark in the cultural life of the county and of Bukovina. Founded on December 12, 1923, under the name of Central Library, through the efforts of professor and former mayor Eusebie Popovici, the institution started with 2 000 books and periodicals and a single volunteer librarian, to reach today over 400 000 library units and 46 employees, over time changing its name several times. In the year of its centenary, the library will also celebrate 30 years since it bears its current name. Meritorious is the activity of all those who, over time, have served the book and the library of Suceava, among them being undoubtedly distinguished Corneliu Soroceanu and Emil Satco.
