Summary/Abstract: The tradition of divan literature has been subject of the criticism about it does not reflect the community lifestyle, it is disconnected from public and real life, it is a complete abstract kind of literature. Nevertheless, recently lots of studies have been done about the reflections of folk culture on the divan poetry and the divan poetry has been a priceless resource in terms of Turkish culture. Owing to these studies, divan poets had included the things which they saw, took advantage of, and used, into their poems. Divan poets had not been indifferent to the culture, customs, traditions, habits of the community that they lived in. In this study, the traditions and customs from the divan of one of the 17th century poets, Bosnalı Âsım, are identified and emphasize the usage of them trying to show that divan poetry was not apart from public. On the contrary what is believed, divan poetry was within the social life of the society and this study is trying to present that reality via the example couplets.
