Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the history of the Catholic church of Saint Johns in Pila (Piła), from the moment when the first wooden church was built in the 15th century, until the ruins of the temple, burnt down in 1945, were blown up. It shows the stages of building a brick church from 1619 to 1844, when two brick towers were erected. The history of the temple was presented against the background of the city’s history. The role of the church as a refuge of Polishness in the years 1815–1945 was emphasized. The third part discusses the fate of the burnt object and unsuccessful attempts to rebuild it, which ended with blowing up the ruins of the church in December 1975.
