Summary/Abstract: This article is a case study, focusing on the image of the miner in the narrative writings and memoirs by I. D. Sîrbu, who became a miner himself as a form of punishment for his "rebellion" against the communist regime. Sîrbu justifies the negative aspects of the miners’ craft, judged ab irato and ad absurdum by those unfamiliar with their work, showing how these become part of their destiny. Drawing on I. D. Sîrbu’s literary representation of this profession, the case study examines the way miners are often unfairly stigmatized by people who ignore their everyday existence.
