The Foundation and Functioning of the Communist Youth League at the Academy of Theatre and Film Arts

Summary/Abstract: The paper introduces the activities of the Communist Youth League – an organisation founded as part of the post-1956 social compromises – relying on oral history interviews and informers’ reports. During its thirty-two years of operation, the Communist Youth League regularly organised external performances for Academy students, as well as holding extracurricular programs and outings, moreover, they published the Academy’s journal, Sirály (Seagull.) This matters because these activities allow us to examine the operation of the Communist Youth League not only from a political, but also from a professional and a community-centric perspective.
