Intersections with theatre in European experimental film

Summary/Abstract: The two principal meanings of the word theatrical (hence its derivate theatralization and theatricality) describes two distinct ways. Theatrical is, first, something related to the theater, but represents, secondly, an affected, insincere, bombastic temper of a person or a situation etc. Our study started from this premise, aiming to probe the cohesion point between theater and film. The experimental cinema of Werner Schroeter was our research support, also including some Rosa von Praunheim, Bas Jan Ader and Marguerite Duras similar film projects. Thus we analyzed the results in the field of dramatic interpretation, gesture, or the image transmission, in case when theatrical elements appears on film.
